Here at Burning Blooms, we believe in giving unwanted flowers a new lease of life. The wastage of flowers is a genuine issue in Singapore today, plenty of flowers go to waste after their purpose has been fulfilled even though they are still in good condition.
After Weddings and events, the unwanted flowers are likely to be thrown away. However, most of these flowers are still in good condition and can still be further used. Disposing of these flowers after their use at these events would not be making full use of these flowers and would be a complete waste.
There is a growing community of social enterprises and business in Singapore recognizing this problem and attempting to make a change to solve this issue. One such notable social enterprise is Bloomback, where unwanted flowers are collected and repurposed. However, more can still be done to help the community through new creative ideas and propositions, and this is where Burning Blooms plans to come in.
It is not commonly known, but not all forms of flowers available in the market are the same. There are many forms of flowers available with the most common being Fresh Flowers and Dried Flowers. Fresh Flowers have a limited lifespan, and need to be kept in a cool and chilled environment to prevent the flowers from withering, and the colour from fading. High maintenance is required and thus they are usually kept in refrigerated rooms at most florists. Dried Flowers on the other hand are dried and preserved, thus keeping intact the colour of the flowers. If kept in good conditions, Dried Flowers can lasts for years.
The popularity of Dried Flowers in Singapore is increasing and various florists island wide have seen the increase in demand for dried flowers within the past few years. This is where Burning Blooms comes in, where we will be collecting unwanted Dried Flowers from weddings, events such as grand openings, and also florists which will be incorporated into our products.
A key partner of Burning Blooms, Xpressflower is a renowed florist in Singapore and through our partnership, unwanted Dried Flowers will be collected from their stores on a regular basis where they will be upcycled and incorporated into our products.
The unwanted flowers that we will be collecting and incorporating into our products initially are namely Baby's Breath, Statice Flowers, and Eucalyptus.
Further down the line, Burning Blooms will be expanding its sources of unwanted flowers and also the type of unwanted flowers that we collect and incorporate into our products. We will also be attempting to repurpose fresh unwanted flowers.
Burning Blooms will have a collection dedicated to these unwanted flowers. Our unwanted flower collection (Launching Soon) will consists of products made from unwanted flowers.
Through our Repurpose Flower initiative, Burning Blooms plans to make a change in society and promote a upcycling lifestyle for consumers and businesses alike to make our environment a better place.
